der Brückentag : a work-free day between two public holidays or a public holiday and a weekend (die Brückentage)

Brückentage finden grundsätzlich freitags oder montags statt, und zwar dann, wenn der Donnerstag oder der Dienstag ein gesetzlicher Feiertag ist.

Bridge days generally take place on Fridays or Mondays when the Thursday or the Tuesday is a public holiday.
